Carrier for iPad

Postby kinbton » Fri May 14, 2010 2:55 am

Does anyone have good ideas for a carrier for the iPad? I love the iMainGo2 case for my iPod Touch, but my user needs a bigger surface. The iPad is perfect in that regard. But she's a tiny thing in kindergarten, with mild hemiparesis, and the iPad is really not easy for her to lug around with her (though she wants to do so -- we saw it hit the carpet a few times already! :o
So I'm looking for ideas for a carrying case for her. I've crafted a quick and dirty case out of duct tape, bubble wrap, and card stock, but I'm not sure how durable that will be (this is an active kid). Also, the volume is slightly muffled in the case. She's motivated to communicate, and we're motivated to listen, so it's still working, but she'll have trouble in a regular classroom next year.

Thanks for any input,
Kimberly, CCC-SLP

RJ Cooper are in australia though, I just been on Amazon UK and they are now selling cases so Amazon.com maybe too at your relevant country.

Otterbox make good rugged cases and now do one for iPad. I had otterbox case for my Blackberry storm which got dropped quite a few times and thats still working. Though I'd be worried about a larger screen having a tendency to crack it it hit concrete (playground).

You could look for one like shoulder bag but open flap like a book. I've seen cases like this but they had no shoulder strap to wear it like a bag.

iPad display case

Postby plbfvi » Sat Jun 05, 2010 8:13 pm

This is not a carrying case but rather a good inexpensive idea I came up with for displaying the iPad w/PLQ2G for my nephew in his school and at home.

Buy a 3" or 4" loose leaf report binder with the plastic see-through cover. The front cover of the 3" binders is about 12"x12" so a better size than then 2" binders. (They economy versions can be purchased for as little as $7-8 or the heavy duty ones around $10-12.) The iPad will slip right under the cover and be at an angle which is perfect for easier visual access for small children, or those with physical disabilities whose fine motor difficulties make a flat screen harder to access. The plastic see-through cover fits snugly across the front of the iPad and works perfectly with the touch screen. Although it is good for anytime use it makes it particularly ideal during mealtime or activities that involve water, or mess. It is easy to slip the iPad in and out and the plastic sleeve does not seem to negatively impact the volume of PLQ2G. One other added bonus is that it might make it a little safer if it gets knocked off the table. The corners of the iPad don't touch the edges so there is a bit of a buffer all around. To make it extra safe add some drawer liner to the bottom of the binder with some tape. This will make the binder less likely to be easily pushed off the table.

Since my school recently purchased ipads to trial with students, I've run into a few problems. I've contacted RJ Cooper and his quick response and willingness to help has been great! I'm purchasing the stand and carrying case from him as well. I like how he adapts the mainstream products for special needs kids!
