Son's school is testing PL2G

Postby Laura » Fri Dec 04, 2009 11:15 pm

Just in case anyone needs backup to get their school to buy an iTouch and PL2G for their child, ours did! I had initially introduced PL2G to our son's teacher (he's in an elementary CLS class) when we bought it. The district had already purchased a Dynavox for him three years ago, with the assumption that he would probably need an updated device by 6th grade. I really was expecting the district to say that they wouldn't be able to purchase it since they had already laid out major funds three years ago. Fortunately, our son has a progressive teacher and the AAC team director is progressive as well. His teacher has to officially "test" it with our son, but of course, he can already use it. We are thrilled that this has worked out for our son as well as all the other kids in the district who will benefit from PL2G.

If there is ever a Nobel Prize for changing lives and empowering people, I hope Sam & David are the front-runner nominees. If nothing else, I hope both of them sleep really well at night!

Laura, I would love to hear more about your experience. Could you email me at samuel@proloquo2Go? And you are too kind about the encouragement.

I can see that PL2G is indeed a good application for educational purposes. If you I think they really deserve an award, how about your group organizing a simple appreciation day. I am sure Sam and company will appreciate it. Chrysalis School Montana

Our son is the first student in our district to get Proloquo2go! He was a great choice to be first. He's old enough to be careful with the iTouch (12 years old) has limited speech, but loves computers and is a quick learner. He had long outgrown his PECS book. Proloquo is the way of the future! It is so advanced and so inexpensive! We hope his success with it will pave the way for other students!

How we did it was this: we bought the iTouch and the school system bought the Proloquo2go. I believe they can download the software to 5 different devices. Because the iTouch is ours, our son can take the device home and use it wherever he is, home, school or out in the community.

Proloquo is an easy device for anyone in the community to be able to access too. I'm sure some families already have iTouch or iPhones...and what 12 year old doesn't love an iPod?! And we always want our children to look like typical kids.

We love it! :D

Any reason why you went with the iTouch rather than an iPad? Did you prefer the smaller size of the iTouch?
